Picton

September 3rd

Picton is the harbor town located 25 minutes from Blenheim and serves as the gateway to Marlborough Sounds and the Queen Charlotte Track. In addition to being the port for the interisland ferry, its many hotels, restaurants, playgrounds and tours are set up for day trippers and summer cruises ships.  It is also the place Jack asks to go fishing every weekend.

We went fishing on Father's Day morning (Bonus: NZ celebrates Father's Day in September). We were having a good time catching  'Spotties', a decently sized wrasse that hits the bait hard and is quite a sport to get hooked.  However, sure enough, some locals saw our success and soon moved in on our fishing spot.

As a tourist destination, the harbor offers fishing charters, dolphin/fur seal-watching tours, mail-boat rides and sunset cruises. However, Lilly is going to take you on a tour of the Exeloo or as we like to call them Robopotty.

The harbor in Picton also provides the ideal conditions to learn to sail. Lilly and Jack have recently started to learn and are both enjoying the challenge of being at the mercy of the wind and the serenity of being out on the water. Mom and Dad like the serenity too. Meredith is content to hunt for starfishes while waiting for them to return.
